The Tourist Board of the Vukovar-Srijem County has designed great thematic routes whose stakeholders are the county’s restaurateurs, family farm businesses and associations, and which help every traveller and guest to find the most interesting places in the county.
One of the routes is the Okusi Srijema i Slavonije project, the aim of which is to bring the gastronomy of the Vukovar-Srijem County closer to guests and go beyond the standard menu. The traditional dishes that you will taste in eating houses that boast this label have been created by people in catering industry themselves. At the Tourist Board of the Spačva Forest Area, this label is currently held by the Aquarius restaurant in Bošnjaci.
The thematic tourist route Put voćne kapi takes you to the best brands of rakija in the county. Although rakija is being distilled everywhere in Croatia, the quality of rakija from the easternmost part of Croatia is widely known and recognized. Every family-run farm in Srijem and Slavonia has its own orchards from which fruit for brandies and liqueurs comes. The cordial hosts will welcome you in the tasting rooms where you can taste their products. Visit Ambar – Matko’s distillery and tasting room in Bošnjaci and enjoy fruit “nectars”.
If you follow the themed route Cesta zlatne niti, you will discover forgotten customs, traditional oenological and gastronomic offer, top-quality handicrafts and friendly hosts. This route will take you to the Šumarski muzej (the Forestry Museum) in Bošnjaci, but also to the family-run farms where you will taste kulen (a type of flavoured sausage made of minced pork), sausages, bacon, čvarci (a kind of pork cracklings), fiš-paprikaš (Fisherman’s soup), čobanac (a traditional meat stew), salenjaci (jam-filled puff pastry made with lard) and tačke (small pillows of dough filled with jam), and where you will toast with rakija and fruit liqueurs. Thanks to this route, you will discover the traditional handicrafts: šlingeraj (unique embroidery from Bošnjaci) and goldwork.
