A two-day trip

Two days in the Spačva Forest: an escape to culture and nature

With two days to explore the Tourist Board of the Spačva Forest Area, you will get the perfect opportunity to delve deeper into the cultural heritage and natural beauty of this region. The first day takes you through history and tradition – from the Šumarski muzej (the Forestry Museum) to the Slavonska kuća (the Slavonian House), offering an authentic insight into the life and work of our ancestors. The second day promises adventure and relaxation in the heart of the forest, on a bicycle or in a kayak, or simply by enjoying the local gastronomy and sunbathing under the centuries-old oaks.

The beginning of the adventure

Two days to visit the Tourist Board of the Spačva Forest Area are better than one, but we are sure that once you experience the hospitality of your hosts, you will want to extend your stay.

Dvodnevni izleti - Slavonska kuća
Jednodnevni izleti - Šumarski muzej

Day one

On the first day, start discovering our region by visiting the Sumarski muzej in Bošnjaci. In this museum – unique in this region, and one of only two of its kind in Croatia, you will learn many interesting facts about the largest continuous pedunculate oak forest in Europe. Take a peek at the Slavonska kuća, where you will see what life was in the past.

The Slavonska kuća is equipped with furniture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The interior is decorated with šlingeraj (unique embroidery from Bošnjaci) and handicrafts, just like in the past, so you will have the impression that you have been sent back in time. After an exciting morning, take a walk to the Aquarius restaurant, which proudly boasts the label Okusi Srijema i Slavonije (The flavours of Srijem and Slavonia), and is the place where you will have the opportunity to taste traditional Srijem specialties. Do not forget to clink your čokanjčići (shot glasses) and toast to a good and long life with our renowned rakija (fruit brandy).

Spend the afternoon of the first day relaxing at the Zvjezdangrad picnic area located not far from the archaeological site of the same name, which dates to the Roman era. If you like angling, do not forget to bring your rods!

You can also visit one of the many family-run farms (OPGs) from our area and enjoy local products. You can find accommodation in rooms, apartments or the “Otočki Virovi” Bioecological and Educational Centre in the heart of the Spačva Forest.

Day two

If you wake up in this no-signal area, we are sure you will want to stay here. After a hearty Srijem breakfast, rent a bike and cycle along one of the marked bike routes. Or, rent a kayak or a canoe, and row down the wonderful Virovi stream. More experienced rowers will want to try the rowing routes on the Bosut. You can also take out your rods here and try your luck at angling.

The playground in front of the restaurant will delight and entertain your little ones while you soak up the sun and rest your eyes on the green crowns of hundred-year-old oaks in the heart of the forest – at the Otočka rivijera (The riviera of Otok), as we affectionately call it. After a relaxed morning, have lunch at the Virovi restaurant. Choose something from the rich menu that you won’t have the chance to taste anywhere else.

End the second day with a walk around the centre of Otok. Enter the parish church of St. Anthony of Padua, then head to the Otočka suvara, a dry mill unlike any other in all Southeastern Europe. There used to be many dry mills, but today ours is the only one that has been preserved and restored. With a bit of luck, you will also witness real grain milling in Srijem, which will make you want to return to this gentle region.
