If you only have one day to explore the riches of the Tourist Board of the Spačva Forest Area, get ready for an adventure that perfectly combines the cultural heritage and natural beauty of this unique region. From the Otočka suvara (the Dry Mill of Otok) or the Slavonska kuća (the Slavonian House) to Šumarski muzej (the Forestry Museum) and all the way to the heart of the forest, where traditional specialties and water sports await you, this day will present you with everything Slavonia has to offer.
If you only have one day to visit the Tourist Board of the Spačva Forest Area, we suggest that you combine the cultural heritage and natural attractions of this opulent region.
You can start your day from two starting points. In the town of Otok, explore the Otočka suvara, a unique dry mill that was powered by horses, then walk to the parish church of St. Anthony of Padua in the centre of the city. If you start your day from the other end, at the Slavonska kuća in Bošnjaci, you will find out how people used to live in these parts 200 years ago. Alternatively, you can visit the Šumarski muzej in Bošnjaci, where you will discover the fascinating history of the entire region’s forestry, and the special significance of the pedunculate oak forests from the Spačva Forest.
And then head to the very heart of the Spačva Forest to experience in person what you have so far absorbed in theory. Only a few kilometres from Otok or Bošnjaci (depending on which direction you are coming from) you will find the Otočki Virovi, i.e. Bošnjački Vjerovi. It is a unique area in the Spačva Forest, where you will be greeted by traditional food in the Virovi restaurant and have numerous opportunities for recreation after a delicious Srijem lunch, which you must finish with a local traditional dessert such as salenjaci or tačke.
Take a walk along the Virovi educational trail to the archaeological site of Virgrad. Or rent a bicycle and cycle through the heart of the Spačva Forest along one of the marked cycling routes that pass through this area. If you like water, rent a kayak or a canoe and paddle down the Virovi stream, to discover the rich animal life of our area. One day will pass quickly in this charming environment, so you will either extend your stay immediately or you will plan a longer trip here soon.
